Time to Roll.

Do you stop every now and then to consider the tires on your vehicle? Many drivers don't think twice. However, it's important to remember them, as they're one of the most important components of your Nissan. Routine tire maintenance is critical for optimal performance (not to mention the safety of you and your passengers). You can prevent uneven wear, reduced fuel efficiency, poor handling and shortened tire life with regular tire rotations. Make an appointment with us today to have your tires checked.

Here at Giles Nissan Opelousas, nothing makes us happier than helping you keep your Nissan in great shape, especially your vehicle's tires with regular tire rotations and maintenance. That includes reducing tread wear and optimizing performance and good handling. Were you aware that there's a way for you to check the tread on your own tires? That's right! By using the "quarter test," you can check the depth of your tire tread and determine if the time has come to replace your tires.

The Quarter Test

Place a quarter between the tread ribs on your tire. A "rib" refers to the raised portion of the tread that spans the circumference of your tire, and tire tread is composed of several ribs.

Turn the quarter so that Washington's head points down into the tread.

If the top of Washington's head disappears between the ribs, your tread is still deeper than 4/32 of an inch. If you can see his entire head, it may be time to replace the tire, as your tread is no longer deep enough.

Tire Tips for Performance

There are many critical components that make up your Nissan, and tires are one of them. Like many parts of your car, tires require routine maintenance for optimal performance. Have questions about how to care for your tires? Our certified technicians are here to help.

Check Your Tire Pressure

While your tires may be in good shape on the outside, the air pressure on the inside can lead to underperformance or even cause damage. It's important to maintain the recommended pressure to help preserve the life and performance of your tires. A variety of factors can affect pressure, such as a puncture or cold temperatures. Be sure to check the air pressure in your tires regularly and refer to your owner's manual for the correct pressure level.

Improve Fuel Economy

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, you can add an additional 3.3 percent to your vehicle's current fuel economy rating by maintaining properly inflated tires. Without proper inflation, your engine and related components have to work harder, which can cause a noticeable dip in fuel economy. What's more? Inclement weather or adverse driving conditions can make it even worse. To obtain optimal fuel economy from your Nissan, check the recommended PSI found inside the driver's doorjamb, not the number found on the side of your tire. You can always bring your vehicle to Giles Nissan Opelousas and let us handle it for you.

Balance and Alignment

Similar to how shoes can wear down unevenly, certain parts of your tires can wear down more quickly based on how your vehicle drives. Want to prevent uneven wear? The most effective way is by having your tires balanced and aligned regularly. Despite advancements in tire manufacturing over the years (which has resulted in less need for these services), it's important not to forget about tire maintenance.
